Case: custom flower arrangements for a law firm in the Zuidas

When an international law firm decides to restyle its complete Amsterdam headquarters, every detail stands out. Especially in an office where executives, clients, and international partners come through the door daily. In this article, we explain how Blooms realized a custom floral design for an office of 110 employees, spread over four floors on the Zuidas — from the initial briefing to implementation and the first evaluation after six months.

The request: an image that suits international clients

The client, a large international law firm with more than 30 offices worldwide, opened a new office on the Amsterdam Zuidas at the end of 2025. The interior was designed by a renowned international architectural firm: subdued tones, high-quality natural materials, and plenty of daylight. Only one thing was missing: living elements that would give the space soul.

The original plan was a weekly fresh flower supplier, but during the first months, this proved unworkable:

  • The inconsistency between deliveries was noticeable to international guests
  • The weekly invoices amounted to more than €2,500 per week
  • The waste and logistics flow disrupted the sleek office concept
  • The choice of flowers often did not match the color palette of the interior

Based on the recommendation of the facility manager of another Dutch office of the same firm, Blooms came into play. The request was crystal clear: "A uniform, high-quality floral design that matches a 5-star hotel, but in a law firm."

The approach: three phases over six weeks

Phase 1: Site visit and analysis

In week 1, two styling consultants spent half a day on site. We mapped out every space: incidence of light, sightlines from the reception, key locations for client visits, and the existing color palette of the interior. We also spoke with the office manager and the reception team about practical wishes.

Conclusion: 22 key locations spread over four floors, with a mix of statement bouquets, mid-size arrangements, and compact accents. The interior's color palette (soft beige, warm gray, muted green, dark wood accents) guided the flower selection.

Phase 2: Concept and presentation

In weeks 2 and 3, we created a visual concept document with:

  • Floor plan per floor with exact placement
  • Photo renders of each bouquet in its location
  • Color chart showing the coherence with the interior
  • Vase choice per location (a total of four different styles for variation)
  • Full quote with one-time investment and annual maintenance costs

The presentation to the partners and facility team lasted 45 minutes. Three minor adjustments were discussed on the spot: the reception needed a statement bouquet of at least 90 cm high, the executive lobby requested a Japandi style instead of classic, and the canteen asked for something more cheerful than originally proposed.

Phase 3: Production and delivery

After final approval, the complete furnishing was assembled in weeks 4 and 5. This happens in our custom workshop where our florists hand-make each composition — no two bouquets are identical. For this project, we used, among other things:

  • A 110 cm high statement bouquet for the main reception, with a mix from the Botané collection supplemented with some custom elements
  • Two identical 70 cm bouquets in a symmetrical arrangement for the executive lobby (Japandi style)
  • Eight mid-size compact bouquets for the meeting rooms on floors 2 and 3
  • Four colorful accents for the canteen and coffee corner
  • Six compact arrangements for the executive offices and consultation rooms

Delivery and placement took place in week 6, on a Wednesday late in the afternoon. Two styling consultants completed the entire furnishing in four hours — everything was ready before the staff came in the next morning.

What has it yielded?

Financial

  • One-time investment: €19,400 including vases and initial placement
  • Annual maintenance costs via subscription: €5,800 (quarterly changes + maintenance)
  • Comparison: previous fresh flower costs were approximately €130,000 per year
  • Savings in year 1: €105,000
  • Expected savings over 5 years: approximately €585,000

Qualitative

During the first evaluation after six months, we asked the office manager about the impact. Three observations were central:

  • "Guests primarily notice the consistency. Everyone who enters sees the same quality image — whether it's 8:30 or 18:30."
  • "The partners are positively surprised by the Japandi choice in the executive lobby. It suits the image they want, and it looks better in photos for our website than we expected."
  • "It's just one less worry in our week. No deliveries at half past ten on Tuesday, no forgotten vases. It's there, it looks good, and I don't have to do anything."

Sustainability

For the annual CSRD report, the client asked us for a substantiation of the CO₂ savings. We provided these figures:

  • Eliminated Scope 3 emissions from fresh flowers: approximately 4,000 kg CO₂e per year
  • Added Scope 3 emissions from Botané furnishing (depreciated over 5 years): approximately 600 kg CO₂e per year
  • Net reduction: approximately 3,400 kg CO₂e per year

What we learned from this project

Three insights we are taking to future corporate projects:

  • The floor plan is leading, not the catalog. We provided renders per location in advance — this prevented the client from having to choose from photos "in the wild" and immediately created a sense of customization.
  • Delivery day requires careful planning. We did the installation at the end of a workday, not on the weekend. That saved double transport and provided a natural "before and after" moment for the staff.
  • The evaluation after six months is invaluable. It brought to light two small optimizations (a too dominant bouquet in the kitchen, a too subtle arrangement in a passage) that we adjusted during the first seasonal change.

Frequently asked questions about these types of projects

How long does an average custom project take?

For an office of this size, we plan 6 to 8 weeks from initial briefing to completion. For smaller offices, 3 to 4 weeks is realistic.

Can your team work with our interior architect?

Yes. For this project, we liaised directly with the architectural firm to align color palettes and styling direction. We regularly collaborate with external designers.

What is the minimum scope for customization?

From 8 bouquets, our custom projects start to become meaningful. For smaller needs, we recommend the standard Botané collection.

Can this also be used for multi-location roll-outs?

Certainly. For clients with multiple locations, we design a uniform styling plan and roll it out in phases per location.
